Rain washed out the Ford Trophy match between Otago and Canterbury in Dunedin after only 31 overs had been bowled in the first innings.Having been sent in to bat, Otago lost opener Sam Wells for a duck to Hamish Bennett but were steadied by a 109-run stand for the second wicket between Hamish Rutherford and Aaron Redmond. Rutherford’s run-out for 48 in the 22nd over triggered a slide and Otago slipped to 146 for 5 before rain brought an end to the game. Bennett finished with 2 for 22 in six overs for Canterbury.
